The iCR8™ Method

ICR8

Approaching its 9th year, the Marcus Graham Project’s experiential learning methodology,  iCR8™, is specifically designed to provide diverse aspirants in the field of marketing and media, including advertising, PR & social media with the exposure and experience necessary to solidify careers within the industry.  iCR8™ Programs consist of our flagship Summer Boot Camp in Dallas, Mini Boot Camps held in various cities across the nation, as well as topic based workshops such as our Sports Marketing Workshop in Cleveland.

Highlights

Background

The advertising & media industry, a multi-billion dollar international business has long asked the question: “Where can diverse talent be found?” In response to this issue, the Marcus Graham Project has created the iCR8™ programs, including our flagship Summer Boot Camp, teaching transferable skills to potential and future media, marketing & advertising professionals.

This idea was posed in a blog written by Tiffany R. Warren, Chief Diversity Officer of The Omnicom Group and Founder of the AdColor Industry Coalition :

“One idea proposed is the creation of an industry sponsored advertising “bootcamp.” Such a camp could assist those agencies who need to diversify, but are worried about lack of advertising experience in potential candidates. This would also help professionals yearning to be free from other sectors hit the ground running when they enter ours.” Tiffany R. Warren (“The Big Tent”, Ad Age Blog)

The goal of  iCR8™ programs to do just as Ms. Warren suggested, identify opportunities in the industry and those interested in pursuing them.  The curriculum design was inspired by the 1969 Agency Primer written by Bill Sharp entitled, “How to Be Black And Get a Job in The Advertising Business Anyway.”

2009 was the inaugural group of our boot camp.  The seven young men that entered our pilot program were helped to make put the Marcus Graham Project on the map. To visit their profiles and their work visit: www.marcusgrahamproject.org/greenPeriod/

The 2010 class helped to take our program to the next level and attracted the attention of AT&T as their corporate client and sponsor. The 11 young men came from all over the country to Dallas and truly made an impact on the city and the industry. To visit their work and profiles please visit: http://www.metathinq.com

If the 2010 team raised the bar, then the 2011 team set the standard.  The team of 11, which for the first time included ladies, made an indelible mark on Dallas, as well as their clients.   The third time was definitely the charm. This past summer truly made us realize that the vision of what we have set our to accomplish will come to fruition. in 2012 The Marcus Graham Project was able to find a divine nine individuals who would to take our summer boot camp program to the next level.  Please met THINK FRUITION by visiting www.thinkfruition.com

The fifth year of the program made an impact globally.  In 2013, 14 young leaders from five countries outside of the United States convened to create an agency whose global perspective personified a universal language that Gen-Y speaks, and often shouts.  Check out their work: www.yfive.co

The 10 young men and women who completed #ICR82014 has “crystalized” our imagination for the type of leaders that we would hope to impact through our program.   “This is by far the best class that we have had,” said Larry Yarrell, co-founder of MGP and Chief Operating Officer.   Have your imagination crystalized by visiting their website: http://www.prismaffect.com/
